I purchased 13 maps for the expedition. The maps are all laid out edge to edge in this picture. With the maps laid out the route is about 20 linear feet. These maps are 1/250,000 scale. For an expedition of this nature where the easily followable route becomes sublimated in a maze of small lakes, streams and portages maps of this scale become little more than guidlines. I may purchase maps in greater detail for some sections of the route. I could easily get ten times as many maps in a smaller scale but at $8.00 each, it would be quite an investment; not to mention the extra bulk. I will also be using a GPS so I'll never be utterly lost.

Many good maps of the rout can be viewed at The Atlas of Canada . This one shows the terain.
